BOOK SLAM - DATE CLAIMER 17th May

Date Claimer: 17th May

Book Slam!

What were the best books published in Australia in 2015? This is your chance to not only find out what other experts are saying, but you can speak up yourself! Keep May 17 free to join us when we celebrate the Notables, slam about our personal favourites, and complain about those that missed out! Sure to be an entertaining and informative night of fun!

Grab your favourite Australian children’s book published in 2015 and join us at Avid Reader on 17 May to tell us why it should make it on to the CBCA 2016 Shortlist.

You’ll have 2 minutes up on the illustrious Avid Reader stage to tell us why your favourite book should make it onto the shortlist. The more creative your Book Slam is, the better and Slammers can be any age - you can even team up with others to deliver your slam.

Authors Chris Bongers, Christopher Currie and Trent Jamieson will be joining us on the night to slam down their own thoughts on which books should make it onto the shortlist, and others will join them along the way. If you can’t make it to Avid Reader, slam your thoughts down on a 2 minute video, post it on YouTube, then let us know it’s there (we can be found on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook) and we’ll share it on the CBCA Youtube Channel or maybe play it on the night.

Remember, the book you choose must have been:

  • published in 2015
  • written for children and young people under 18
  • written, illustrated or otherwise created by an Australian or Australian resident.

So, prepare your own 2 minute slam and join in the fun at Avid Reader on 17 May or get recording and let us know how you go. Of course you can just come along and watch, and there’ll be a few bookish prizes for the best Book Slams.

Tickets are $10 with proceeds going to support children’s literacy.

Details on how to book coming soon.........Keep the night free!
